Finally we have comparison of the new Prado with the equally new Lexus GX460. The safety recall of April 2010 has prompted to look at what the actual differences are - again out of pure interest.

Not that primary safety like wearing a seat beat or motorcycle helmet is optional in the US so analyze that yourself!

The Lexus GX460 is essentially the most fully equipped '150 series Land Cruiser' you can buy. All the usual Lexus additions are included along with the additional 'bling' that the top range Prado does not even have, along with new front and rear design.

The Lexus exterior has different front panels that make it look a little different but clearly anyone will be able to tell that they are both based on the same car. The front end seems to be styled on the existing Lexus RX series.

The Lexus interior has a different interior dashboard set up compared to Prado. The Lexus uses higher quality materials and trim panels. It is clearly better integrated and more luxurious.

The main mechanical difference is that the Lexus has a V8 engine. Otherwise the suspension and electronic setups are in line with Lexus priorities. 

Despite the same suspension components we do know if it has been setup differently, as in softer for other markets. The Lexus GX also rides lower than the Prado.

As for pricing the US Lexus seems like good value even taking into account the exchange rate and GST at the time of writing (Approx 93cents)  However you have to consider that it is quite expensive compared to say a BMW X5 approximately costs between $43,000 - 85,000. However the GX460 has more standard equipment than the basic X5.
