Last Updated: 09 May 2008 Since the Prado (120 series) is a relatively new model there aren't many engines available in the past or present. I guess there will be very few in the future since the current engine are top of their class. Past engine in the Prado include: 4 Cyl Twin Cam 16 Valve 2.7 litres Petrol V6 Quad Cam 24 Valve 3.4 litres Petrol
On specs alone the V6 is the choice ! Since the test is on the V6 I can safely say that it is the petrol version a really good engine. I can't say much about the diesel as I haven't driven a diesel. However based on what heard at the fleet reviews it not exactly state of the art. Wait for the 2UZ-FE version - much better. The V8 would be nice but there does not seem to be any real reason for choosing it over the V6 apart from personal preference.
Claim for the Lexus GX V6 is 8.1 sec 0-60mph. Claim for the Prado Diesel 1KD-FTV is 12.7 secs
0-100kph.

From it initial world wide release in 2003 the following engines have called the Prado Home. These are the claimed engine power. 1GR-FE However overseas models has access to the 'new' direct injection model from introduction of this series. This engine available in Australia from late 2006. 1KD-FTV (2006 models) 2UZ-FE This engine model appears to be the same as the V8
in the 100 series which claims another set of figures. The
Lexus LX which also has the same engine claims over 200Kw and 450Nm.
Interesting isn't it.
