Toyota Hilux Vs Volkswagen Amarok |

Here's a quick comparison between the current Toyota Hilux pickup and the yet to be released Volkswagen Amarok. Since we are looking at a utility vehicle as a replacement for the Prado we naturally gravitated to the Hilux but there are so many other choices that it would be silly not to look at the competitors. So the two biggest manufacturers in the world go head to head in the pickup market - should be interesting. The newest entrant in the market is the Volkswagen Amarok. It came to our attention during the Dakar rally as it was used as a official support car. What better place to try out the newest 4x4 vehicle than the hardest rally on the planet. VW is not new to commercials offering a huge number of commercial vans. Personally a new Kombi van if design right would be a better bet... To make the safety rating easier to promote the NCAP safety rating has been used! |
The new Amarok certainly looks conservatively good in the pictures and specs but it didn't exactly standout in the rally videos. We all have to wait till the release date towards the end of 2010. The Amarok comes only as a dual cab utility 4x4 so it fits in our shopping list. a Single cab version apparently due sometime in 2011. Lots are still unknowns about the range but as you can see by the specifications it'll probably do OK. Quality of materials look higher than the existing models which are produced by Japan. The Amarok will probably be the safest pickup too having switchable ABS and traction control and LSD. Since everything is switchable it should go well on any off-road track too! As for its competitors stay tuned for some more
comparisons over the next few months. Note that you should always check with your local
dealer for correct and up to date specifications and pricing. |
