I put this page up so that you can compare the Toyota Prado to the SsangYong Rexton II. The manufacturer is really called SsangYong and according to Wikipeida it means Double Dragon. A relative new brand to most of the world in terms of cars - it is former a South Korean company that features Mercedes Benz engines and chassis.

In fact there are various models based on older Mercedes in the range which means you have a proven basic mechanicals. The Rexton is based on the older Mercedes M-Class 4WD. Nothing wrong with that! The engines and pricing however are the main selling point for the company.

Like new manufacturers from China and Korea the brand is an unknown which means it will have a hard time selling especially when a off-road capable vehicle needs to have a documented history of reliability and durability over a long term.

Ssangyong Rexton 2
VS
120 SeriesToyota Prado

The Rexton was originally introduced in about 2001 as a competitor for the prior generation Pajero and the Prado. The current version is simply called the Rexton 2 and a improvement from the original. Apparently there is a Rexton 3 underdevelopment and due for release soon.

I have not seen too many Rexton's about - so its not a popular choice. I haven't even seen a dealer yet! So might be worth it if you want something different...

Based on specifications alone it seems like a bargain compared to the Prado but there are too many uncertainties like reliability and resale for to to consider this a front runner. It's looks are  polarizing - like every other Ssangyong model but at least it does look OK.

Needs a bit more publicity and public comment before it will ever be a major brand outside its home country. If you like it why not try it???
