Prado Vs Pajero Sport/Challenger
Last Updated: 01 April 2010

I put this page up so that you can compare the Landcruiser Prado to the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport  otherwise known as the Mitsubishi Challenger.

The Mitsubishi Challenger is probably the name that will be used in Australia if it is ever released.  It is currently for sale elsewhere in the world already as of 2009.

The Pajero Sport is not related to the bigger regular Pajero.  The Pajero Sport is based on the Mitsubishi Triton/Trojan/L200 utility truck.  It's engines and frame and other cosmetic panels, interior and front suspension are shared but the rear end and suspension have been replaced by more passenger friendly technology.  It retains the solid rear axle though.  It seats up to 7 by the way...

This car is not a direct competitor to the Prado since it is smaller and certainly has no upmarket components.  I've put up the page for interest only purposes.  Besides it is a traditional 4WD and clearly more hard core than regular SUVs.

This Pajero Sport/Challenger is more comparable to the Toyota Fortuner or any other utility based vehicle.  However it is not the same as the 4Runner which is based on the current HiLux and is bigger.

This class of vehicles have more 4WD capability than smaller SUV, for example the Mitsubishi Outlander, Nissan X-Trail or Honda CRV.

The engines available for the Pajero Sport are the same as those for the Triton utility.  So they are decent enough.  It uses more basic and hardware so it will probably be easier to fix if something does go wrong.  Unfortunately because of this it is technically not as safe as the Prado class vehicles. Of course compared to a good regular car these 4WDs are still behind.

One thing about this car is that I think it looks much better in real life than it does in pictures, although conservative.

Note that specifications will change according to the trim models available and additional or less accessories.  You should check the official Mitsubishi website for your country for the most up to date information.
