Prado Vs FJ Cruiser
Last Updated: 03 August 2010

Here's a quick comparison between the current 2009 120 series Toyota Prado specifications and the Toyota FJ Cruiser.  This is probably the last for the 120 series - I'll be focusing on the 150 series Prado shortly.

The FJ Cruiser has been around for a few years but is only officially available is certain parts of the world. Namely left hand drive countries US, Canada and the middle east.

Originally a concept car it was released as a production model in 2006. It uses the same engine and basic frame as the 120 series Prado.

The FJ is rumored for Australian release at the end of 2010. (Update: From reports in the papers and on the web it does look like a definite release)

It is a retro-remake of the original FJ Land Cruiser of the 60's much like the VW Beetle and the Mini. However based on preliminary reviews many complain about poor ergonomics and un-Prado like refinement. I guess that means that it has more in common with Toyota's commercial vehicles like the 70 series rather than passenger models.

Both exterior and interior of the FJ Cruiser is retro inspired with the latest technology.  It also has 'suicide doors' like the Mazda RX-8.

I would buy one as an official import.  It brings back memories of my original FJ Cruiser back in the early 80's.  Also it looks really cool and extra practical at least for passengers.

The figures are from the brochure and converted to metric.
